Inter Faculty Script Writing Competition 2020

DRAMSOC Interfaculty Script Writing Competition was held in November 2020 as a substitute for the Annual DRAMSOC Interfaculty Drama Competition due to the prevailing situation. A complimentary Script Writing Workshop was conducted on the 29th of November, 2020, by Professor Sumathy Sivamohan, an award-winning filmmaker, performer, poet, and professor in English at the Department of English, University of Peradeniya.

The event, which was organized for the first time in the history of DRAMSOC, was primarily focused on the members of DRAMSOC. Still, other university students were also given the opportunity to participate. The faculties were ranked based on the original or adapted scripts they submitted.

The purpose of the event was to awaken the dramatic and writing skills hidden within contestants despite the unavoidable circumstances in the country.

Inter Faculty Drama Competition 2019

The DRAMSOC Inter-Faculty Drama Competition for the year 2019 was a massive success as we were able to celebrate the spirit of drama and theatre. The undergraduates of the following Faculties, Arts, Dental Sciences, Management and Science, participated in producing Dramas that were memorable and timeless.

Forum Theatre Session 2018

DRAMSOC kick started the year with the first forum theatre of 2018 which was held at the Sarachchandra Open-Air Theatre (Wala) on the 8th of February. The event was organized in collaboration with the International Interaction Club (InIC) who brought delegates from Europe to the location. The delegates performed a traditional dance at Wala adding colour to the event. The forum theatre served as a medium through which DRAMSOC members in different faculties such as the Faculty of Arts, Dental Sciences, Engineering and Management came together to explore themes such as sexual harassment, sex education and racism through the performance of probable incidents related to the themes. It became a platform for educating and raising awareness among undergraduates as well as understanding cultural differences across borders with the presence of the European delegates. What made the event unique was the fact that DRAMSOC members from different faculties came together in collaboration instead of competition to create awareness about important issues in Sri Lankan society and to make lasting bonds of friendship that led to many future collaborations.

ODEUM: The Short Drama Competition

‘ODEUM 2018, The Short Drama Competition’ began as a simple idea that eventually turned into a massive joint venture by the members of the Ceylon Dramatic Society from the faculties of Arts and Engineering. With a rich heritage closely interwoven with the history of the university itself, DRAMSOC has always aimed to improve drama and theatre within the university while also influencing those beyond its boundaries. The mission of ODEUM 2018, held on the 05th of August 2018 at the Main Hall of Hillwood College, was to nurture and produce exciting, challenging new work by playwrights in and around Sri Lanka, and expand the theatre experience of our audience. We intended to provide a platform for aspiring playwrights, and to give them a strong, loud voice
